Lola is a program director at the Water Research Foundation. She has more than 17 years of experience in environmental engineering science, water treatment technologies, and public health program management with a focus on water resources and quality. Lola is the lead on WRF’s Trace Organics research area. This includes understanding and communicating exposure to trace organic compounds in wastewater, reclaimed water, receiving waters, and in biosolids. She currently manages several research programs including the Foundation’s Unsolicited Research program and numerous projects covering issues of water reuse, wastewater treatment technologies, compounds of current and future interests, emerging and opportunistic pathogens, emergency response planning and preparedness/security, linkages in receiving water quality, and biosolids. She has served as a member of several Project Advisory committees and liaison to several research organizations. Additionally, she focuses on the issue of human health and risk assessment. Prior to joining the former Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), she worked as an epidemiologist in the Emerging Infectious Program and the Division of Outbreak Investigation at the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She has worked and collaborated with numerous international and national agencies including WHO, CDC, FDA, USDA, the World Bank, and the U.S. EPA.

Lola has a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Tougaloo College and a Master's of public health degree in environmental and occupational health from George Washington University. Her graduate work focused on comparing heavy metal concentrations in municipal and tap water supplies in collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers. She is an active member of the American Public Health Association, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the Global Health Council, and supports Doctors without Borders.
